Course Overview

Designing Applications

Want to learn how to design a mobile application? This course takes you through a step by step learning in designing an Android APP in Photoshop. We have a comprehensive course material with hours of content that will take you through every important step in designing applications.

We start by designing applications introducing you to the project we are going to deal in the lectures and start to set up the document for the purpose of creating an application. You will learn designing applications various methods of containing the color combinations, preferences, and settings while starting working on the UI designing for applications.

Later we start with designing simple elements by designing the logo of the app and a splash page. And slowly we step into revealing the complexity of the application. You will learn how to create introduction pages, how to create login forms and signup forms and finally we step into the designing of the core application. We will start working on one design at a time to fulfill the entirety of the application.

Designing applications in Photoshop

Introduction:

In this beginning lecture of the designing applications course, you are introduced to the entire process we will go through the process we are going to teach you in the next three and half hours of the course period. We explain to you the functionality of the application and what are the rationales behind conceiving the User Interface design and you will also learn about some of the important decisions making processes and ideas that designers should undergo while working on the mobile application projects.

Resources:

In this lecture, you will understand that it is highly necessary to know in prior to what is the material that you need for mobile application design. We suggest you make an entire list of the content resources that it is required for your design and get your list and material ready before you start working on your design. In this lecture, we will take you through a variety of resources that offers free resources that are required for designing a perfect application. It varies from simple stock free images to the color combinations as themes and flat design UI colors that will help your work easy while designing applications.

Setup Photoshop Preferences for UI Designing

During this designing applications lecture, you will start working on the Photoshop Preferences and find new ways to arrange them for your convenience and for working it better for User Interface Designing. Photoshop is an omnipresent application that is readily used in different industries, such a potential application should be prepared well while you are working on a specialized project as we are working on this mobile application designing. So, we quickly take you through the task of setting up Photoshop in a way that will increase the performance and eases the workflow. Here, you will see adjusting your RAM settings for enhanced speed of your machine, define the numbers of steps Photoshop should remember in the history and setting up the Units, Grids and Guidelines as per your convenience and much more information.

Setup Color Settings for UI Design

Similar to the preferences settings that we went through in the last lecture, at this point we will look into the most common problem every designer faces while dealing with the colors. Color settings play a highly important role while designers are at work. Due to lack of knowledge related the color settings, designers tend to look at the colors on the screen and may not exactly make it out how they are going to be visible while you share it on another digital HD device as a Mobile Phone or a Tablet or an iPad. You will make out the different color settings between these devices during this lecture, Here, you will see how to manage the colors to make your document look like the same on every device it is accessed so you can confirm that your exact design is checked at every level of your presentation.

Creating a Custom Workspace

While working on the project, you may feel it as highly uncomfortable to work on a confusing interface that has numerous windows on which you may not use. Unfortunately, there are so many windows that will crop up while you are working on different tools. In this lecture, we will show you how to avoid these hiccups by simply creating a Workspace of your own. You will learn to define the windows that you think that are useful for you. You will also how to how to delete an existing Interface that is either designed by you or set by default. We will take you through the set of default Interfaces of Photoshop and show you how to make use of them while you are working on various projects.

Wireframing the APP

Wireframing is a technique that is equally important to showcase the early skeleton of your application to your client. It is highly important to take the conversation and ideas to the next step by taking the confirmation from the client about your work. We will quickly take you through some of the resources that come useful to create the wireframes. We start by downloading a wireframe of a Samsung Mobile to showcase our application design into it. Later we start working on a wireframe design of our application explaining to the users how to create each and every step of your application. We discuss the two commonly used wireframe techniques and explain the major difference between both of them.

Creating the Logo

During this part of the course, we will tell you how to create the Logo of the application. For this purpose, we show you how to create one in the software Adobe Illustrator. It is highly recommended to design your vector Logos in Illustrator for multiple advantages and purposes. In this lecture, we show you the quick methods of creating the vector logo and talk about the color combinations we are going to work on for the rest of the course and application.

Creating a Splash Page

Here, we will quickly complete a splash page that is displayed while loading your application on a mobile phone. The lecture is quick and short as there is not much of design apart from placing the logo and the text heading. At the end of the lecture, we will show you a quick method of adding depth to the screen by simply using a single color gradient to it.

Creating the Introduction Page:

From this point of the course, we will start working on the practical section of the application. We will start working on the introduction page which leads you to Login and Signup pages. From here, we also give the user a possibility to log in by using his Facebook or Google account and there is also another possibility where you can report a case quickly rather using the login or signup features. Practically, you will learn how to create a beautiful background in the introduction page. You will see how to design buttons and social media launch icons and use text effectively to give an aesthetic look to your application.

Creating Login Page:

During this part of the Designing Applications course, you will come across designing a simple login form on your login page. We take you through creating a wonderful background using multiple images that go well with the theme of our application. Later we show you how to control the background effectively to make it not to dominate the entire imagery of the screen. Here, you will learn how to use colors and blending modes to subside the image detail and create a wonderful color effect on the other hand with simple steps. Later in this lecture, you will see a common template through which you can access the Login and Signup information. We will work on the Login part of the lecture, where you use UserID and Password fields and a button to submit the information.

Creating a Signup Page:

Once we are through working on the Login page the next step is to create the signup page. The lectures include a high level of form designing techniques and UI information that is used to make the form simple and clear. Here, we introduce you to the levels of information that you want to gain from the user. We divide the signup form into two sections such as Personal Information and Account Information. We show you our idea of using the two and how to save the space while implementing these two in the design.

Designing the Application:

Once we complete the introduction and the Login and Signup pages, we enter into the area where our core application functionalities rest. Here, we start designing the real User Interface where style, material, and the matter will coincide. We explain to you how to design the User Interface and speak about some of the important rules of the UI design. The lecture is broken down into several parts as we go into detail to create each and every part of the screen. The main parts of this section will be designing the header or the banner, creating the feature buttons with text and icons, creating the rescue cards and creating the updates section of the application.

Designing the Report Case page:

Through this lecture, we will show you how to create the report page of the Animal Rescue Application. Through this, you will see how to create a template that encompasses the camera, Image display, text notes, Google maps and address display all at one place. The undercurrent element of this screen is to give a proper structure to the screen within the complexities of multiple elements we are using in the app.

Mobile Application Designing Student Reviews:
Laura

There are several elements that I learned in this course. An inadvertent supply in this course is the fundamental thought process behind working on Applications. Though the rules of UI Designing are not much mentioned in these classes, we can make out how to use the screen real estate to design an effective mobile application designing. Overall, the course is highly informative. The best thing about it is the subject. Rather working on a simple concept, here we are dealing with complex plan which gives you more opportunities to understand complex working methods
