Course Overview

Comprehensive Course on 3D-Coat:

3D-Coat is a commercial digital sculpting program from Pilgway designed to create free-form organic and hard surfaced 3D models from scratch, with tools which enable users to sculpt, add polygonal topology (automatically or manually), create UV maps (automatically or manually), texture the resulting models with natural painting tools, and render static images or animated “turntable” movies.
The program can also be used to modify imported 3D models from a number of commercial 3D software products by means of plugins called Applinks. Imported models can be converted into Voxel objects for further refinement and for adding high resolution detail, complete UV unwrapping and mapping, as well as adding textures for displacement, bump maps, specular and diffuse color maps. A live connection to a chosen external 3D application can be established through the Applink pipeline, allowing for the transfer of model and texture information.

3D-Coat specializes in Voxel sculpting and polygonal sculpting – using Dynamic Patch Tessellation technology and polygonal sculpting tools.

In the latest release, users can increase their productivity by using Auto-retopology, a proprietary skinning algorithm. With minimal input from the user, this technology generates an accurate and functional polygonal mesh skin over any Voxel sculpture, (composed primarily of quadrangles), which is the standard that is widely used in 3D production studios. Normally, this kind of polygonal topology must be painstakingly produced by hand.

About Comprehensive 3D-Coat Training

This course, “Comprehensive 3D-Coat Training” provides detailed information about every module of 3D-Coat. The aim is to equip beginners with optimum information about the 3D technology before we take you into the software based training. Though, our focus is oriented towards fresher level, the 3D-Coat Training will also help the medium level learners.

We start with the very foundation topics that introduce you to the world of Three Dimension domain, later we carry on to and explore the interface and move across the important corners of the software to give you a brief understanding and help you to navigate easily within the interface. Users will come to know the list of hot keys, default primitives within the software, render window settings and easy methods to manage the view ports.
From here, we will start to explore every module of 3D-Coat one by one in length. We will start with the Modeling, which again has different types of modeling styles and techniques.

Sculpting/Modeling

Voxels create models with modifiable volume and Surface Mode allows you to work with polygons. In this part of the tutorial, you are introduced to the basics of Spline modeling and start to explore various modeling techniques using curves. You will learn about different Spline types that come by default in the menu.

Pose tools

Pose tools make the job easy for Animators by quickly achieving the results they intend to have. In this section of the tutorial, you will learn about various kinds of Pose tools (subset of Deformers) in 3D-Coat. You will observe how Pose tools are applied to the geometry and manipulated. Another important point is to edit the Pose tools size, strength and control the primitives with the curvature.

Modeling Objects

In this chapter, you are introduced to the primitive modeling objects that come by default with 3D-Coat. These modeling objects play a vital role in creating every 3D Geometric object.

Polygon Modeling

Polygon Modeling is by far the most important part of modeling in every 3D software. Technically, topology created in Polygon modeling is considered more suitable for animations and games. During these lectures, we will introduce you to the components of a Polygon model. We further discuss in-depth about the Vertex, Edge, and Polygon Faces.
Later we explore various techniques of Polygon modeling and finally create a base mesh model using the polygonal modeling techniques.

Material Editor

Now that you are already aware of Modeling, it is time to apply a material on your base model. Here, we will introduce you to the Material channels and discuss the base materials available in 3D-Coat. We will take you through the numerous editing options apart from the two default channels Color and Specular. You will learn how to add, tweak and edit additional material channels that give more realistic look you intend to have.

Unwrapping

In this section, we will discuss the process of Unwrapping a 3D object and preparing it for texture mapping. We will take you through the methods of extracting the UVW layouts from a base model and unwrapping them in 3D-Coat UVW edit. The section is comprised of two example exercises to share practical knowledge about how UVW maps are unwrapped and created.

Lighting

Here you will come to know about various types of Lights and Light settings in 3D-Coat. We will discuss about the common features of lighting and take you through the advanced levels of settings to control the lighting in your Scene. In the advanced topics, we will talk about creating Indoor and Outdoor atmosphere with lighting in 3D-Coat.

Rendering

3D-Coat has a powerful render engine that helps the user achieve realistic and non-realistic types render effects they like. Here, we will take you through the render setting window and discuss the various tabs in length. We will also show you how to gain control over multiple passes while rendering. The lecture will help you understand how render engine works and how to tune it to attain the right output.

What are the Benefits of 3D-Coat Training?

3D-Coat is put to use in a wide range of Industries across the Globe. It offers career options in diverse domains across multiple verticals. By mastering 3D-Coat, you can choose any of the following career paths from the below
