Where will this course lead?

The aim of the CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Marketing is to equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to perform professionally in a support-level marketing role. We bring learning to life through meaningful Assessments which reflect the demands of the modern industry. As a result, you will develop a good understanding of the wider role of marketing and see how your practical skills can be applied to future career progression.

The course is aimed at those either in a job that already involves marketing or those either in a job that already involves marketing or those who wish to find out about marketing with the intention of starting out on a marketing career.

What will I study?

You will come to learn such key principles:

1. Marketing Principles - This is about the function of marketing and its role in an organisation, knowing and applying the four Ps (product, price, place, promotion). (Mandatory Module)

2. Customer Communications - This is about knowing and managing customer relationships, and using different methods to communicate with internal and external customers. (Elective Module)

3. Digital Essentials - This provides you with an understanding of what is meant by digital marketing and the key communications tools used. (Elective Module).

This qualification consists of one mandatory module and one elective module. To achieve the full certificate you are required to successfully achieve one mandatory module and one elective module.

How will this course be delivered?

Classes are mainly one evening per week 6.30-9.30pm, but with occasional daytime attendance required also. Classes are interactive, involving tutor's presentation of key concepts, group work and discussion. Students are expected to research marketing concepts and practice, as well as preparing for the assignment and exam outside the classroom.

What qualifications will I get?

CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Marketing.

How will I be assessed?

We use a combination of methods to assess this course. For the Marketing Principles module, there will be an external assessment consisting of a 90 minute online test, in which you answer the 50 multiple choice questions. In the Customer Communications and Digital Essentials module, the external assessment is a seven page assignment scenario based on a given and organisation of your choice.

Assessment methods used within the qualification and employer-driven, practitioner-based, relevant and appropriate for business needs. In addition, assessments for all qualifications comply with regulatory requirements, are fit for purpose, fair, valid, reliable and manageable to ensure confidence in the standard of learner achievement.

Unit 1: Marketing Principles is assessed by a one hour online test.

(Optional) Unit 2: Customer Communications is assessed via a written project.

(Optional) Unit 3: Digital Essentials is assessed via a written report.

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered via an interview

What are the entry requirements?

It is an open qualification, which means you do not need any previous qualifications or marketing experience. Literacy and numeracy may be assessed at induction.

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide us with evidence of at least IELTS 6.5 proficiency or Trinity ISE III/IV.

What else do I need to know?

Notional learning time is the amount of time expected to take, on average, to complete the learning outcomes of a module to the standard defined by the assessment criteria.

This includes:

- Guided learning hours
- Practical and work-based learning
- Assessment preparation time

Each module will take 80-90 hours of notional learning time
There are three assessment sessions per year within the new CIM qualification.

Please note in addition to tuition fees being paid to Solihull College & University Centre you will also pay an assessment fee for each module and a membership fee.

Successful candidates can progress to the Professional Certificate in Marketing (Level 4)
